Oct. 18, 1938 - April 22, 2020
Jack was born in The Dalles, Or. on October 18, 1938 to Glenn and Ida Wallace. The family lived in Sherman County and he attended school in Wasco and Moro.
He then moved to The Dalles and started his apprenticeship in 1960 with John Milne and Sons Plumbing, purchasing the business in 1969 and there established Wallace Plumbing. He retired after 40 years of service.
Jack was very active as a former member of The Dalles Elks, Celilo Bowmen, Mid-Columbia Power Sledders, and the Mid-Columbia Antique Car Club. He also spent 10 years heading up the training apprentice program for Oregon State (OSATC) in The Dalles, served as president of the board of directors for Chenowith Irrigation and coached little league for 7 years.
He is survived by his wife Mary Carol Wallace of 61 years; brothers, Chuck Wallace (Marlene) of Wasco, Dave Wallace (Neila) of Hermiston, Jim Wallace (Jeanette) of Goldendale; sisters, Erma Bryan (Dave) of Moro, and Glenna Almer (Ken) of Portland; daughter, Jacque Francois (Don); son, Pete Wallace (Lisa); granddaughters, Sarah Osler, Katie Wallace; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, brother, Bill Wallace and sister, Joyce Decker.
Jack will be remembered for his sense of humor and his stubborn refusal to conform to almost any situation, especially the art of political correctness. He will also be remembered for his generosity with his family and to many of his special customers over the years. He was meant to be a Dad and definitely a family man. His life was spent enjoying his family and especially time spent with his granddaughters and nieces and nephews. Jack was a “Pied Piper” and made friends with many children along the way.
He will also be missed by the “Burgerville Roundtable”, a coffee group with which he formed a special bond. We are so grateful for all the visits and supreme generosity of supplying him with a treat almost every day.
One of Jack’s biggest regrets will be not being able to see Trump Re-elected!
Jean M. Hampton, age 98, a resident of The Dalles, Or. passed away at home April 21, 2020.
